The most recent New Church spiritual growth program, "Pause: Make Space for God" just launched last week so I thought I'd let you know about all the different resources that are available for this program.
The main URL for all things Pause is newchurchpause.org. Almost everything is there I just want to highlight some of the things that you might not find otherwise. In particular I want to let you know that there are ways that you can participate even if you're not near one of the participating congregations.
Videos
First, here's a little video introduction to the program:
Then there are videos of these people sharing their excitement about the program: Anna Woofenden, Michelle Chapin, and David Lindrooth.
There's also a video explaining how to use the workbook.
And finally there are introductions for the content for each week. Here's the one for Week 1.
If you want even more or want to know where you can find new videos as they post them, here's a link to their Vimeo account.
Sermons and Small Groups
If you're near one of the participating congregations, I'm sure that people would love to have you join them for worship on Sunday and join one of the small groups that they're running, even though the program has already started. If you're not near one of the participating congregations, you can listen to recorded sermons a day or 2 later on newchurchaudio.org or you can try watching a live stream of the service from the New Church of Boulder Valley (www.bouldernewchurch.org) at 10:30am MST on Sundays. They also have a video archive of past services but I haven't been able to make it work on my computer yet. I also know that people are looking into repackaging the video of the recorded services from Boulder in a more accessible way. I'll let you know if that happens.
And, if you want to participate in a small group but you're not near any congregation, you can join either of the 2 online, email based groups.
Blog
This is one of the main things that I want to highlight. This year they've created a blog (pauseprogram.wordpress.com) where participants can share their experiences as they do the program. This is another way you could get something of the small group experience if you can't attend one in person.
In addition to anyone who wants being able to post responses, they've also got a bunch of great staff writers who will be writing regularly. I think it will be well worth checking regularly or subscribing to. You can subscribe to receive emails at the bottom of the right sidebar.
Materials
The best way to get the basic materials for the program is to buy the workbook for $12.95 but you can also download the workbook for free. Downloading it is a good option if you'd like a large font version. You can also sign up to receive the workbook content in daily emails.
This year there's a lot more than just the basic workbook. There are small group activities and a small group leaders guide that you can download and stick in your workbook; there are extensive, high quality Sunday School materials for each week; and related marriage enrichment materials. The marriage materials are still being produced but the first week is available.
Facebook and Twitter
There's a Facebook page for Pause and a Twitter account (twitter.com/PauseProgram). If you want to tweet about Pause, use #Pause4God. Both of these will keep you up to date about Pause.
